FAME provides an education maintenance, extensions and enrichment program that focuses on mathematics, computer science, communication skills and career exploration. Participants are generally 7th through 12th grade students.
Our programs include a Summer Enrichment, Year Round Program along with other Advancement programs that will give the student the skills they need for College Preparation and Career Advancement.
Summer Enrichment
A fast paced, intense 6 week summer enrichment program for high achieving students grades 7-12. We operate Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-3:00pm. The first half of the school day is devoted to mathematics, science, computer technology, and communication/English skills. The second half of the day often includes industrial and cultural tours, but most certainly focuses on group based engineering projects.
- 7th – 10th Grade Summer Engineering Enrichment Program is modeled closely after the first six-week summer program administered by FAME in June 1977. The first half of the school day is devoted to mathematics, science, and computer science and communication skills. The second half of the day focuses on industrial and cultural tours for the 7th and 8th graders. For the 9th and 10th graders, the afternoon consists of working on the engineering projects.
- 11th Grade Residential Program, University of Delaware offers participants their first opportunity to experience campus life. This four-week program offers course work in algebra II, pre-calculus, geometry, chemistry, and engineering exploration.
- 12th Grade Residential Program, University of Delaware, provides students with the opportunity to sample two college level courses: one in pre-calculus/calculus, and one in physics. The program is four weeks in length. In addition, the students have a course in computers and an engineering research design course.
School Year Program
For the school year program, classes are held on the First and Third Saturdays starting from October and ending in May. Participants are generally 7th through 11th grade students.
Other Programs:
- College Preparation Seminars are held for Juniors and Seniors.
- A Test Awareness Program is offered for all students and aims to familiarize students with test taking techniques and procedures associated with standardized testing instruments such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
- Special Events and Programs are also offered throughout the year. These include tours of the supporting corporations, cultural events, social outings and more.
- The Job Readiness Training Program is a seminar designed to ease the transition from school to the working world for junior and senior high school students who will be entering the summer employment phase. Elder students are used as peer counselors and role models to prepare younger students for more demanding phases of the program, i.e., the on-campus programs at the University of Delaware.
