WHY EQUITY?
All students and learners should have the appropriate resources for a high-quality education and a pathway to a career. We know that some students need more…more guidance, more mentorship, more access to opportunities. FAME continues to leverage our history of successfully empowering students by ensuring that they are academically and socially equipped with foundational skills to achieve. Furthermore, being “In on Equity” for FAME means choosing to highlight the contributions of people of color and women in STEM education. Ensuring that equity in education is part of the social justice movement sweeping America and local communities is vital.
FAME has invested time, energy and resources to be a national provider of equitable curriculum and storytelling in and out of the classroom! Through our STEMulate® Change initiative, FAME creates and designs unique standards-based curricula that ignite a passion for learning that continues to reshape a desire for many students to pursue diverse STEM related careers. We tell untold stories of icons that inspire and reshape the value proposition for students of color and girls.
We know that inclusive curriculum taught by qualified and engaging instructors has the power to serve as a launch pad for any student.
Being “In on Equity” means opening the doors of opportunity to all students but being intentional about creating access for students of color and girls! In partnership with Tallo®, FAME is connecting talent to talent seekers. Tallo® is an online platform and app for connecting talent with national opportunities including scholarships, internships, workforce programs, employment, college and more. Being “In on Equity ” pays off! Meet Michael:
Michael McDougal started FAME as an 8th grader. Michael relied on FAME to help build his academic skills and instantly fell in love with science when he learned about icons like Mario Molina. Not only did he graduate high school with honors, he entered college with a strong sense of community and personal pride having learned of the many contributions black and brown people made in STEM. During a FAME tour of AstraZeneca, Michael was introduced to pharmacology and was excited to be in “a real science lab”. After graduating King’s College with a Chemistry major and Mathematics minor, Michael joined Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories as a Scientist. Michael remains an active FAME Alumni and advocate for equity!
